Media Center

Each week students are invited into the library with their class for a special 30 minute book checkout session. Usually this includes story time activities with Mrs. Thompson or a lesson in how to use the library. We do have a limit to how many books each student can check out at a time, but since the library is open and staffed all day, we encourage students to exchange books as they need to during the week.

Kindergarten students may have 2 books out at time. Students in grades 1-6 may have 3 books out at a time.

We understand the library books can be damaged, lost, or misplaced. We will send notes home each week to remind students they have an overdue book. We ask that students bring them back as soon as possible so they can check out new books. If you know that the book cannot be returned, we will ask for a payment of replacement. Please contact our librarian, Mrs. Holly Thompson, with questions or concerns.

Book Check-out: Teachers arrange a weekly book exchange time for their classes. Students may also visit the Media Center to work or exchange library books if they have a pass from their teacher. This time often includes lessons, reading time, and other activities we have in the library.

Information and Technology Skills: Tanglen's teachers integrate technology skills into curriculum and instruction. Teachers may also schedule time with the Media Specialist. Examples include introducing theme-related online and print resources, research skills, or supplementing classroom instruction with print and online resources. The Media Specialist also provides expert lessons and advice in digital citizenship and using information media responsibly.

The Tanglen Media Center is staffed by three professionals. Holly Thompson is a licensed Library Media Specialist with a masters degree in Information Media from St. Cloud State University. Mrs. Thompson has been the media specialist at Tanglen since the fall of 2019. From 2009-2019, Mrs. Thompson had the same role in the Osseo Area School District at Crest View Elementary School.

Donna Beyer, the Media Center Paraprofessional has worked in the Tanglen Media Center since 2002. Her love of books and children makes it a perfect match. She has been a parent (three HHS graduates) and volunteer (ECFE through HHS). Life lessons and work experience have supplemented her AA Degree from Golden Valley Lutheran College.
